Discover Udzungwa Mountains National Park with Akika Adventure Tours
Udzungwa Mountains National Park, proudly presented by Akika Adventure Tours, is one of Tanzania’s most remarkable treasures, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes.
Part of the ancient Eastern Arc Mountains, Udzungwa is often referred to as the “African Galápagos” due to its extraordinary concentration of endemic plants and animals. This chain of forest-covered mountains rises dramatically from the surrounding plains, creating a unique and isolated ecosystem rich in natural beauty and scientific importance.
The park is characterized by lush, unspoiled tropical forests that stretch continuously from lowland areas at around 250 meters to high altitudes exceeding 2,000 meters. Towering trees, dense vegetation, and mist-covered canopies create a magical and untouched environment, home to a wide variety of rare species, including the famous African violet.
Unlike traditional safari parks, Udzungwa is best known for its walking safaris and hiking experiences. With Akika Adventure Tours, visitors can explore an extensive network of forest trails. One of the highlights is the scenic hike to the Sanje Waterfalls, which cascades approximately 170 meters into a beautiful forest valley. For more adventurous travelers, the Mwanihana Trail offers a multi-day trek with stunning views and access to one of the highest peaks in the range.
Udzungwa is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 400 recorded species, including several endemic to the Eastern Arc Mountains. The park is equally famous for its primates, including the rare Iringa red colobus and Sanje mangabey, both found nowhere else in the world.
This pristine forest continues to reveal new species, making it an important center for ongoing scientific research and conservation.
